The Company
Scaling offshore wind with precision and performance
Equinor applies its deep offshore expertise from oil and gas to accelerate offshore wind growth. Managing complex logistics, maintenance planning, and supply chains, the company prioritises efficiency, safety, and sustainability in every operation. To keep pace with its expanding wind portfolio, Equinor sought digital tools capable of simulating and optimising operational decisions before implementation.
The Motivation
Creating a smarter O&M planning process
Equinor’s East Coast R&D Practice wanted to understand how maintenance strategies, technician schedules, and vessel use affect long-term O&M performance. The goal was to evaluate multiple operational scenarios—each with varying logistics, crew rotations, and resource costs—and determine which setup delivered the best performance with the lowest total cost of ownership.
The Solution
Partnering with Shoreline for advanced O&M Design Simulation
Using Shoreline’s cloud-based O&M Design simulation platform, Equinor modelled the logistics of multiple wind farm configurations, testing a wide range of maintenance strategies.
The simulation enabled the team to visualise long-term operational outcomes, including vessel utilisation, technician workload, and cost impact under changing weather conditions.
With scenario data integrated into their financial models, Equinor could identify optimal strategies early in the project design phase—reducing uncertainty and improving decision quality.
The Results
Accelerating data-driven decisions and reducing costs
By implementing Shoreline’s simulation technology, Equinor achieved faster, more reliable O&M planning cycles and improved cost transparency.
The ability to simulate and compare numerous configurations allowed Equinor to:
Reduce manual scenario analysis time by nearly one-third
Optimise resource allocation across vessels and crews
Strengthen cost forecasting for future offshore wind projects
Establish a replicable digital framework for continuous O&M improvement
